Went to Dingles Public House for Sunday Roast today (not sure how the menu differed from the regular menu if at all. maybe just the time of day).
Andrea had the 007 which was made with Fords Gin, Ketel One, and Lilet Blanc. The lemon twist seemed to lift it up a bit and made for a very clean and crisp cocktail. I had the Hanky Panky which had gin sweet vermouth, and Fernet. It was a heavier cocktail, but still quite good. Cocktails are good as you would want in the city.
For starters, Andrea had the Radicchio & Gem Salad and I had the Scotch Egg. The salad was dressed with a sherry vinaigrette. I liked the bitterness of the radicchio in the salad. It was nothing fancy, but a solid and tasty salad.
The sausage on the Scotch egg was surprisingly light and delicate (for sausage) and not heavily overly seasoned and with a bit of a crunch. I don’t often have Scotch egg, but I enjoyed this version.
For our mains, I ordered the cod and chips and Andrea had the Roast Strip of Beef. Both were solid options. My fish had a nice solid batter on it, strong enough to stand up to some malt vinegar and not greasy. Chips were perfectly cooked with a nice crunch on the outside. Curry sauce on the side was great with the chips. Andrea’s beef was perfectly cooked and came with some red wine gravy and horseradish cream (not too strong a bite, unlike that strong horseradish at House of Prime Rib) as well as some Yorkshire pudding, roast potatos, honey glazed carrots, and braised red cabbage. Quite a complete dish, but the beef with gravy and horseradish cream was undobutedly the star.
For dessert, we had to order the Sticky Toffee Pudding. The pudding was surprisingly airy and light which was good given the caramel and brown butter ice cream.
We’d definitely come back and I heard they have Wellington Wednesdays so may have to try that some time.
