Jacob scheduled a dinner meeting with a vendor. Even though Dreamforce is going on, he was able to get us table since his cousin works at Quince.

We ordered a bunch of starters to share – the Heirloom Tomato Caprese, Squid, Cranberry Bean & Calabrian Chili, Bluefin Tuna Crudo as well as a Porcini Mushroom Pizza to share. All of these were delicious. The heirloom tomatoes were so ripe and fresh. The squid was the one that surprised us all the most since we weren’t quite sure what to expect with that one but it came together nicely with the squid, the beans, the greens, and of course a little bit of kick from the Calabrian Chili. The bluefin was served atop thin rectangles of cantaloupe which also surprised us pleasantly with a bit of fresh sweetness. And of course the pizza, which came out fresh out of the oven and had a rich umami flavor from the porcini mushrooms and the melted cheese.

For second course, we all ordered the Raviolo Di Ricotta. The three of us locals had all had it, but Michael hadn’t. The yolk on mine was just slightly more cooked than I would have liked, but the dish was still delicious no doubt in part due to the large amount of butter (in Wisconsin they say “everything is better with butter!”).

Only Jacob and I ordered mains…he had Olivier’s Pork Chop and I decided to try the Wolfe Ranch Quail, something I would normally seldom order, but I figured why not give it a try. Overall, I thought it was just ok and not something I would order again. It came with snap pease and a sauce with cooked tomatoes. I just didn’t find the quail particularly flavorful (and it’s a lot of work to get just a little bit of meat and I didn’t love the sauce (although I generally love tomatoes, so go figure). Fortunately, I was pretty full from all that we had eaten before (honestly, I could have just skipped having a main entirely, but I’m a glutton). I was also so full that I didn’t even try a taste of Jacob’s pork when he offered, but it certainly looked decent.

Despite the fact that we were all full, we did end up ordering desserts. We ordered the Gravenstein Apple Crostada and the Fig & Chocolate Cremoso to share and Michael ordered some gelato. I only had a small bite of the two desserts. The apple crostada is like an apple pie or tart, but without a filling. It was fine and not too sweet. The cremoso was rich and creamy and chocolatey with figs as used expect.

All in all, another delicious meal as we’ve come to expect although I definitely wouldn’t get the quail myself again. Thanks Leah and Jacob!

Bluefin with cantaloupe. Interesting. Esp. since the flavor of cantaloupe is so domineering.

yes, that would be true re: cantaloupe, but it was just a tiny sliver of it so it was reasonably balanced
