Acquerello
(repeat restaurant) We definitely spent the day doing our bit to prop up the economy with our consumer spending on Black Friday. Started the day with shopping at Barney’s (going bankrupt closing sales) and Bloomingdales (I never imagined one could spend so much on sweat pants…Paul Smith, so they are pretty darn awesome). Chillaxing a

#33 old folks early dinner booked last minute. a very enjoyable meal overall. There wasn’t a tasting menu and wine pairing (we couldn’t remember the last time we ate at a Michelin Star restaurant that didn’t have a tasting menu) but it worked out great where they accommodate us and just shared all of our

Hashiri Restaurant
#33 another impromptu dining choice. We opted for the 6-course omakase (other option was 9-course) on a Wednesday since tomorrow is Halloween and I’m flying out to Florida. Great meal. Many tasty ingredients from japan (we’re always suckers for Hokkaido uni… plus one uni dish had caviar and gratuitous gold leaf (note, gold leaf is

Heitz was promoting a flight of wines which included their

Sushi Hon

Wines included a brut rose, a white Burgundy, and a sauterne. Sake pairings were enjoyable and included a Dassai 50 nigori, but

Nico
Thursday dinner at Nico. There are 62 Michelin starred restaurants in the Bay area and this was our halfway point… Number 31 on our current list. I’d actually call this a bargain relative to many of the places at which we’ve dined this year. Food was tasty and very well executed. Wine pairings were interesting

Mahila
This week, we decided to try the newest restaurant in our neighborhood, Mahila, a Malaysian restaurant which is the second location from Azalina Eusope. Cocktails were tasty and all of the dishes had interesting ingredients and flavors. The biggest nitpick we would have is that the dishes we are off of were just too small.
