Prik Hom

Was just looking for something pretty quick and easy, but tasty, so we decided to revist Prik Hom on Geary. They have a seasonal menu, although the last time we were here it was also summer so some similarities with the menu.

I started with their Ultimate Thai Iced Tea. Not sure what made it ultimate, but I do have to say that the tea component was delicious so it was easily one of the better if not the best thai iced tea I’ve had (and generally don’t order this).

We took the recommendations from our server. For starters, we had the scallops and lemongrass, which fortunately came out very quickly since we were starving and relatively soon afterward came the shrimp gor lae. Both were delicious with all the essential flavors we expected with a Thai dish. With the shrimp, I ate the heads since Andrea is not so fond of those and they were very flavorful.

For our mains, we had the stuffed chili with red curry and the umami spicy shrimp prik ka gluea stir fry. Curry had a little bit of heat (even below a moderate heat). It was a banana chili (mild) stuffed with group pork and shrimp. The pork and shrimp wasn’t quite as flavorful as we hoped it would be. The spicy shrimp had a flavorful sauce and again the shrimp heads were packed with flavor. Overall, the two starters had better layers of flavor than the two mains.

Lastly, we finished with the smoked young coconut ice cream for dessert. The smoke comes from some incense that they trap underneath the lid and comes out when you lift it. The ice cream was delicious with bits of candied coconut on top and little puffed rice for some texture.

Gotta eat the heads. I don’t know how good incense smoke tastes with coconut. Seems perfume-y in a very Sunday mass kind of way.
