Trisha had been wanting to try this place for late breakfast and we were game. I made a reservation at the counter (we always like to see the cooking action) and seats at the corner so the 3 of us could all speak to each other more easily. It was nice that they had perfectly accommodated my request and we were seated right at the corner. There were a lot of great things on the menu, but I did decide to try the Frenglish platter, eggs sunny side up, which was their take on an English Breakfast since I didn’t really have a proper English Breakfast when we were in London in Dec/Jan (unless you count the one I had at the Virgin Clubhouse (which I guess you could). Andrea ordered the Turkish eggs which is what and Trisha ordered the Arabic Omelette.
My Frenglish was a slightly elevated version of an English breakfast although the most French part of my dish was the Pommes Anna since everything seemed straightforward – pork sausage, bacon (thinner like US bacon and not like a rasher), black pudding, roasted tomato, mushroom (not a boring button mushroom, but a stalkier one), baked beans on the side and toast (I went with sourdough). It was probably a better prepared English breakfast than a typical one, but I overall I was not that excited by it. At this point, all of my curiosity about English breakfast has now been satisfied and I would be fine if I never had one again in my life, lol.
Trisha’s and Andrea’s dishes were far more interesting. Andrea’s dish a round omelette for the base and topped with pickled red onion and an herb salad. Trisha’s had the a flatbread with poached eggs nestled in labneh toped with herbs, sumac, spicy sauce. Both were flavorful with a nice combination of ingredients and seasoning. I liked Trisha’s dish because I’m a sucker for poached eggs.
Even though we were not hungry anymore, we were very curious about the sweet dishes so we ended up ordering the Salted maple pancake and Our Ultimate French toast. Both of these were fantastic. The maple pancake was not light a thin flapjack, but thicker, almost more like a muffin at that point and it was topped with brown butter. Yum. The French Toast was made with a thick cut of bread and was topped with caramelized hazelnuts and came with a side of whipped cream. The toast itself was very moist and custardy on the inside. I didn’t detect any cinnamon which I didn’t miss in the least. Both these were such a great way to finish the meal that I was seriously tempted to come back here for dinner (perhaps next time we’re in London).
