Last night’s dinner at Nari – Andrea had been wanting to come back here for awhile so I’m glad we finally did. This time we went with the chef’s pick (I.e. tasting menu). Cocktails were all very good, although we didn’t enjoy the one that was like an overly sweet Manhattan.
Flavors were rich and layered with a decent amount of heat (curry, peppers, fish sauce, shrimp paste…bring it on!). The sauce with the first appetizer dish (the only dish not on the menu) was very tasty that we kept the extra to use during the rest of the meal. Other appetizers included the som tum melon, squid and pork jowl, and the nom tok moo (lettuce wrap with pork). We were already full just through the appetizers and we still had the mains to come.
The mains included the carmelized fish sauce cabbage, beef pad prik gaeng, and the gaeng bimbai aubergine. We, of course, ate even though we were full because all of the flavors were so good so we were incredibly stuffed by the end of it. Hard to pick a favorite with so many great flavors, but I’ll go with the aubergine/eggplant.
A fantastic meal and we won’t wait so long to come back next time!
