This was our third time dining here, but it had been more than about 2.5 years since we had last eaten here. We sat at the counter again in the exact same spot. Out of simplicity/laziness, we just did the set menu again.

First dish delivered was the San Ten Mori sashimi course which included konbu-cured local halibut, amberjack, bluefin tuna and since I went with the added sashimi, it also included otoro, uni, and trout. Fish was very fresh. No complaints here.

Shortly after the sashimi, we received the Gindara Sunomono which was the miso cod with a side of sunomono. This is very much a comfort dish for me since I love miso cod and sunomono.

Next came a trio of dishes – the Hitokuchi Oden which is primarily fishcakes in broth. The Yakitori Tsukune is made of ground chicken with a egg yolk to mix in the tare and a bit of togarashi for a bit of extra seasoning. The Chiizu Tori Katsu was a chicken katsu stuffed with cheese. I think Andrea liked this one with the cheese sealing the deal.

I know I was getting pretty full, but we still had one more savory dish. There was a choice on this, so Andrea did the Mabodofu Don and Matsutake Udon. My Udon was the much lighter option which was perfect for me. The don was much heartier and spicier which suits Andrea’s flavor profile better. There was pork, tofu, miso, ginger, hot chili, trumpet mushroom, and sansho pepper.

Dessert was the Hojicha Panna Cotta with an almond cookie and the cutest tiniest syrup pitcher of hojicha syrup. These went together so well with a nice toasted flavor and not too sweet. on the side, there was also a couple slices of persimmon (I’ve been buying persimmons too at our neighborhood farmer’s market) and a yuzu-passionfruit pâte de fruit.

Overall, we really enjoyed this meal. The set menu gives you a variety of dishes across their menu and as much as we enjoyed the set menu, we really need to explore more of the menu and just do a la carte. But it was really very well done and no wonder it’s always so difficult to get a reservation here!
