Jeff and I were at RSA and had lunch with our reps Dawn and Sahand. They picked International Smoke which was something I had been interested in trying for a long time because it was in the Mina restaurant group and associated with Ayesha Curry. Dawn was having a Sauvignon Blanc and Sahand ordered a Bloody Mary which lowered my resistance so I ordered one too even though I knew it was going to make me sleepy later. It was meh.
We ordered a couple starters – the Crispy Dungeness Crab Spring Rolls at the recommendation of the waitperson and the ‘Pekin’ Pork Belly Bao Buns. When we ordered the spring rolls, we didn’t realize they were fried and we were all a little surprised that they were fried. They weren’t particularly memorable. The bao was ok. Standard bao bun, some pork belly, hoisin sauce, and some pickle for acidity, and a little pork rind for crunch.
Both Jeff and I ordered the Crispy Sticky Ribs sincer we’re at a place know for smoke so I had to get some barbeque. The outside of the ribs was a bit chewy and flavor was just ok. Oh well. Had a great discussion with Dawn and Sahand which was really the reason for getting together.
