Marea
Tonight’s dinner was at a slightly lower key restaurant. Still 1 Michelin star, but had the benefit of being only a block away from out hotel. Italian cuisine. Cocktails were good but nothing special. Bread (focaccia and a 7-grain) was fine but nothing special. For the oysters, we went with sweet petite from Prince Edward

Restaurant Daniel
This was one of the many restaurants on my list to try in NYC. We managed to score same day reservation late, which fortunately wasn’t very late for us since we’re still on pacific time zone. We’re not used to coming in on the second seating so there was a bit of a wait before

Aquavit
Did have anything planned for this evening, but I started looking for something on the ride from the airport. This ended up being a solid choice…. Friday night, 7 pm, two Michelin star, walking distance. Cuisine is Scandinavian inspired. With a 7pm seating we were right in the rush of service and it felt like

Le Fantastique
Tonight’s dinner was at Le Fantastique, a new restaurant that opened up a few months ago, with French and Japanese influences. They boast a McIntosh audio system and a turntable to play vinyl which of course interested me. We had an early reservation (which we always prefer) and we were in fact the first diners

Birch & Rye
This week’s dinner was at the newest restaurant in our neighborhood. We were very happy to see this open up on the previous location for Mahila and Contigo before that. Cocktails were very tasty utilizing vodka infusions. We, of course, went for the caviar service with imported Russian caviar paired with the horseradish infused vodka.

Cotogna
Spoiler – this was a great meal esp. for the money. This is a sister restaurant to Quince, which is one of our favorite restaurants. It was as difficult to get a reservation here as at Quince. Every time we’ve dined at Quince we’ve always wondered about Cotogna next door which looked great. We finally

Saison
A belated birthday dinner for my sister. I ate here last month in the salon (I.e. bar), but the full tasting experience at what was the best table in the restaurant (the same when I ate here for the first time years ago) right next to the kitchen:. The entire staff and Liz once again

Estiatorio Ornos
Tonight we are at Estiatorio Ornos the Greek Mina restaurant that replaced Michael Mina. Andrea, Trisha and I had tried to dine here a couple months ago but our plans were foiled due to the heavy rains that caused some flooding in the restaurant so our reservation was canceled. I have many fond memories of

The Anchovy Bar
This Thursday, we ate at a newish (opened during the pandemic) restaurant which is a sister restaurant to The Progress and State Bird Provisions which are both Michelin starred restaurants just around the corner. It was interesting that our server had asked us if we had eaten at the other restaurants (which, of course, we
