Andrea wanted to go to Tiburon. I’ve been trying to get back into shape with my running after getting sick from my Florida/Boston trip and some running injuries. Running to Tiburon is my favorite route, but I’ve definitely not in shape to run the full 21 or so miles from home so Andrea dropped me off in Sausalito. Still ended up going 9 miles before i decided to start walking.
We decided to eat at Bungalow Kitchen again (last ate here in March) since we ate at Sam’s last time we were up here last month and The Caviar Co. has such a limited menu now. We couldn’t get a same day reservation on open table, but we had no problem getting a table (not outside on the patio though). First thing I noticed was that the menu changed. I had read somewhere that they were changing management groups from the Mina group, so it looks like that finally happened. Didn’t see bloddy mar. They no longer had the Diana bloody marys on the menu, so we ordered cocktails which were pretty good.
Menu is still prix fixe, but with new dishes of course. Andrea went with the Haas Avocado Toast (she was interested in the pickled Fresno chiles) to start and the Lobster Roll. I went with the Prime Beef Meatballs and the Dungeness Crab Benedict. The avo toast was definitely better than what I had back in March and used better bread (sourdough). My meatballs were made with beef and pork with a good amount of their house made basil tomato sauce.
After we finished our starters we just sat around for awhile waiting. Our server kind lost track of us since it seemed like we were the lone table of his in this section since there was another server handling all of the other tables in this section. We kept looking around for him, but he was running around the other side of restaurant and never looked our way. Fortunately, one of the other waitperson saw us looking and she asked if we needed anything and we wanted to get some more cocktails before our entrees. She told our waitperson who hastily came by and I think at that point finally told the kitched to fire our orders. Sadly, when Andrea’s lobster roll came out, with a paltry amount of lobster with a very large brioche bun. The amount you se visible in the picture is all there is (i.e. literally no lobster inside the bun). It was ridiculously disproportionate to the bun (and this entree had a $10 supplemental charge with it). We should have said something, but Andrea wasn’t very hungry at that point anyway, but we did ding the server on the tip for his neglectful service.
Menu was interesting enough (and there aren’t that many choices here in Tiburon) that we’d try it again, but we’d be much more wary of the service.
