Birdsong

The midpoint between Andrea’s birthday (last week) and mine (next week) gave us a thin veiled excuse to go out and try another restaurant. When first arriving at the restaurant (on Mission between 7th and 6th) from my Lyft, I was greeted by some homeless folks and the air was redolent of urine, but once inside my senses we’re no longer assaulted and balance in the universe was restored. The space very appealing, large-ish and open and airy. We had the seats at the chef’s counter with a great view of the wood fired meat station. The “Journey” consisted of 20+ dishes, many of which were bite sized with meticulous preparation and layers of flavors. We actually prefer this format since it gives us more things to taste. We picked our own wines (not realizing that there was a wine pairing available) but we think that turned out better for our tastes anyway (wines were mostly decent and nothing overly ambitious). I appreciated how they used as many parts of the animals that they could (e.g. heart, gizzard, tongue, liver, foot) although some may not appreciate as much as I do. Maybe one too many desserts (esp. since they gave us an extra “sundae” in celebration of our birthdays, but overall a very enjoyable meal.
