We were already in the Hotel Kabuki for Sake Day, I had planned for us to eat at Nari which is also in the hotel and also one of Andrea’s favorite restaurants. This was our 5th time here and we usually get the chef’s pick menu, but this time we decided to go a la carte to get a different choice of dishes than we usually seem to get with the chef’s pick menu.
Andrea ordered the Sum Tum Khao Pod to start and I ordered the Pretty Hot Sweetbreads. Hers was made up of charred corn and green tomato with some fried oysters and some peanuts for texture. I’m not a big fan of fried oysters, but the dish was nice. The sweetbreads were, IMO, fantastic. What’s not like, crispy fried sweetbreads with a tamard and siracha glaze, and some chili and lime zest. Such a delicious flavor combo and preparation.
For our second courses, Andrea ordered the Gaeng Som Pla and I had the Gaeng Kiew Wan Nuea. Andrea’s dish was a kampachi with a curry sauce. We didn’t like this so much since the combination of raw fish (and we’re pretty particular about raw fish) with warm curry sauce just made for lukewarm sashimi. My dish was made with oxtail in a terrine although it almost seemed like a confit. Add some green curry and green mango and you have delicious dish.
For dessert we had the Wan Yen with fruits (raspberries and strawberries), jellies, coconut cream, and crushed ice.
All in all, another nice meal here.
