Andrea P. and Stanford invited us to the Valkyries game and dinner beforehand. I was very interested in going to a Valkyries game and had been interested in going to Miller & Lux for awhile, but we hadn’t gotten around to doing either. Miller & Lux is a steakhouse from celebrity chef Tyler Florence (we dined at Wayfare Tavern last month) located directly at the Chase Center.
As we sat down, a woman came by with a cart of various champagnes, which was a nice touch, but we all decided to pass. We did order cocktails. Andrea had Lux’s Martini made with Hendrick’s Gin and vermouth and blue cheese stuffed olives, Andrea P. had the Guava Rose Spritz, Stanford had the Miller’s Manhattan, and I also had a Lux’s Martini, but went with the Belvedere served dry and also with the blue cheese stuffed olives.
For starters Andrea and I ordered the Miller & Lux Caesar to split (and I got all the anchovies since Andrea doesn’t like them and I love them) prepared and served tableside and Andrea P. and Stanford split the Straawberries, Tomatoes, Burrata. Salad was decent and for all the more so because of the anchovies 😀
Both Andreas ordered the filet mignon and Stanford and I ordered the rib eyes (I think the same thing happened when we all ate out at Bistro Ember when the Andreas both ordered the same thing and Stanford and I ordered the same thing, lol). This came with our choice of sauces. Since all 4 of us had ordered steak they gave us all 3 of the different sauces – red wine Bordelaise (which I wanted and the waitperson recommended with the ribeye), creamed horseradish, and tarragon Bernaise (which Andrea wanted). I’m always very skeptical of having steak when we eat out since we make steaks exactly the way we want them at home (rib eye from Barons, our local butcher, or Whole Foods if we’re too lazy to go to Barons, simply seasoned with salt and sometimes pepper cooked over hardwood charcoal on our Big Green Egg), but again, they did a decent job here. It was perfectly cooked to temp and came with a side of bone marrow in the bone which was nice. I liked the Bordelaise and horseradish sauces and ate most of steak with both.
We didn’t have time for dessert and plus we were all full and the game was starting in 10 minutes. For the mignardise, they gave us little mini carrot cakes which were surprisingly good. The risk with making a smaller version of these is that it could easily come out too dry, but these were moist and a decent amount of frosting (have to have a good frosting to carrot cake ratio!).
As we were starting to walk towards the exit, the woman who had previously offered us champagne asked us if we were going to the game, which we were (esp. since Andrea and Stanford both were wearing Valkyrie sweatshirts (also many other diners were wearing Valkyrie clothing). She asked us if we knew about the back entrance to the Chase Center, which we did not. The back door of the restaurant over by the restrooms takes you directly into a hallway with security to get directly into the Chase Center! That was a great tip! It is a slightly convoluted from there though to get to the seating, but we finally figured it out.
It was a great game and the Valkyries had monster 3rd quarter to come back and finally pull away in the last minutes of the 4th quarter.
