Last meal here in Austin with Jacob and Bryan. This was an old school steakhouse in all the best ways. Had to start with a dirty martini (Ketel One Vodka). We ordered a few starters – the scallops special on risotto, the Fresh Jumbo Lump Blue Crab Cake, and the Wood Roasted Akaushi Beef Bone Marrow which I wanted.Scallops were fresh and flavorful with a hard sear on one side and topped with shavings of truffle. Risotto was rich so this made for a heavy seafood dish, although it was tasty. I was interested to try the crab cake because it was blue crab and I primarily have dungeness crab cakes back home. It was good, but I still prefer the sweetness of dungeness crab. The bone marrow was as rich as you would expect. It was acommpanied with toasted Italian country bed topped with shaved grana padano cheese. Bread was just a bit too thick for my taste, but was a solid carrier for the bone marrow.

We ordered a bottle of Camus to go along with our main which was a 40-oz 30-day aged tomahawk. We did receive a selection of knives; I went with the Lagioule style knife. The steak was perfectly cooked and with a bit of that aged funk I like. Sides were the Potato Puree, the Sateed Baby Spinach, Pan Roasted Wild Mushrooms, and lastly the Cappelletti alla Piemontese that the waitperson recommended. A lot of food and more shockingly, this is the first meal I’ve been where Jacob didn’t finish off everything, haha (granted it was a very heavy meal. He did take the leftovers and did end up finishing it for lunch the next day).

We did of course have to order dessert. We had to get the Hot Bananas Foster Brioche Bread Pudding and we also went with the Strawberry Vacherin which sounded good since it sounded lighter and I love strawberries. The bananas foster was as sweetly rich as you would expect and came with a side of pecan praline gelato. We made very short work of this dessert. The strawberry dessert was only ok. I didn’t notice it had meringue which I’m not a huge fan of.

All in all, it was a solid, comforting, old school steakhouse which was a great end to my trip here to Austin.
