We had to eat at Goldilocks and Tita Pye was joining us. so we ordered a lot of food – Sinigang, Barbeque Pork, Pancit, Garlic Fried Rice, Crispy Pata, Beef Kare-Kare, Crispy Pusit, Fresh Lumpia, Halo-Halo, and Leche Flan. I ate a bit of everything of course.

My favorite was the Crispy Pata thanks to that crispy deep fried skin and the tender and moist pork meat. Yum. They also had house made Mang Tomas as well as bagoong since those are no longer legal to import in the US. The BBQ Pork was good, but I think my dad’s is better (he uses pork shoulder I think). I didn’t like the kare kare as much because it was beef (prefer oxtail) and the sauce had some tripe in it which I didn’t really care for (apparently I used to love tripe when I was a kid though).

The halo halo was great, but the flan was only so so. Putting pieces of flan into halo halo though worked pretty well.

Most importantly, it was a rare occasion to get us all together so that alone made it memorable.

    RIP bagoong and Mang Tomas in the USA. Kare kare definitely is better with oxtail. Need that gelatin. I, on the other hand, love the inclusion of tripe in kare kare. Halo halo yuuuuummm. Sinegang nice and sour, but needed some patis.
