Bao

This was a recommendation from my coworker (I think she went to the Soho location though which is the one listed in the Michelin Guide). We waited for them to open which was good because it did end up filling up fairly quickly (was packed by the time we left). They had a special called Mama Yu’s Malay Chilli Chicken Bao which they recommended so we had to get that. I ordered the 40 Day Aged Beef Rice, Tapei Dressing and Andrea ordered the Grilled Hispi Cabbage. The chicken bao was a bit oddly arranged with a large piece of fried chicken, topped with some sauce and chilis with the bao cut like a hamburger bun. It was good, but I wished I had tried some of the more traditional bao too, but since we had a big dinner, I didn’t want to eat too much. The beef rice bowl was topped with the slices of beef arranged concentrically to cover all the rice with a small opening in the middle for a very orange egg yolk. The beef was cooked perfectly and was quite tender. With the rice and the egg yolk, this dish was very much comfort food for me. The family of 3 that sat next to us at the communal table seating also ordered at least two of the bowls as well. The cabbage dish was also quite tasty.
