Andrea hadn’t been interested in revisiting Angler so when Steven invited me for dinner, we decided to go since neither of us had been for awhile.
The cocktails were very enjoyable. We mainly had them mezcal versions of other cocktails (e.g. penicillin, last word, negroni).
There are some items off menu that you can ask for. The crab (dungeness) fried rice is supposed to be really good, but they don’t always have it and didn’t yesterday (boohoo). I’ve heard the pork chop is really good too, but it was a 40oz tomahawk and we weren’t prepared to just eat that (wanted to try other stuff).
The frog legs were prepared quite well with a nice batter, but there would be a bite or two that would be a bit too “amphibious”. The meat is actually not that flavorful (guess there’s a reason we all eat chicken instead of frogs…). The oysters were nicely prepared also, but I am more of an oyster purist (i.e. plain or very simply dressed) and so I really didn’t taste the oyster much at all. The parker house rolls did let me mop up the sauce from the oysters which was nice.
The cod was kinda standard (not bad, but not very exciting). I really liked the preparation on the chicken although it was a bit more dry than roast chickens I make in my BGE, but came with a nice Carolina style BBQ sauce. I really liked the corn too (it’s in season and was so sweet).
We liked the sundae/softserve and the pouring on of the caramel and all was good fun. The cheesecake tasted very much like cheese and had a savory flavor to it, so we asked what cheese they used and they said it was cream cheese! I had a 2003 Chateau D’Yquem to go with dessert and Steven had some coffee (they use beans from Sightglass).
In any case, thanks Steven for an enjoyable time!
