My very good friend Chris was in town for the Databricks conference. Since he can’t eat red meat, I figured sushi was a good option (and a lot of restaurants are closed on Monday). Andrea and I had eaten here several times and most recently in December so it had always been a solid option for us.
We went for the full omakase which included 7 dishes/bites in the Otsumami, 10 pieces of nigiri, and dessert.
I’m not going to go into detail on each of the dishes this time. Overall, it was a less experimental menu that the last time we were here. Truffles for the chawanmushi were dried out, but still had a tiny hint of their aroma, esp. when placed into the chawanmushi. There were several of the nigir that were torched, which is nice as a novelty, but a bit of a cheat.
Overall, Andrea and I were just a bit underwhelmed by this visit since everything didn’t quite seem on point (flavors not quite there, uni had a more sallow look to it, their signature Shokupan was missing just a bit more butteriness, etc.), but in the end, the point of the dinner was to spend the time with Chris which was the real treat this evening.
