(repeat restaurant) We definitely spent the day doing our bit to prop up the economy with our consumer spending on Black Friday. Started the day with shopping at Barney’s (going bankrupt closing sales) and Bloomingdales (I never imagined one could spend so much on sweat pants…Paul Smith, so they are pretty darn awesome). Chillaxing a bit at home and then dinner. It’s white truffle season in Alba so we wanted Italian for dinner. Truffle tasting menu with wine pairings (Apparently we didn’t have enough to eat at thanksgiving, lol). I used to live just a couple blocks from here and first ate here almost 20 years ago. Technique and ingredients were fantastic. Wine pairings were for the most part very well done. Many different truffle dishes, so many interesting and memorable dishes and flavors (e.g. the rabbit mortadella, the hen in the “purse”, the wagyu of course). The sardines dish was too fishy for Andrea. Only big miss was the white truffle on the first dish which wasn’t the freshest and we had to say something to the waiter. Admittedly, we are truffle snobs (thanks to Trisha Anderson). So we made sure we sniffed and selected the truffle before they shaved it. The waiter did try to make it up to us on the other truffle dishes. Another fantastic meal at arguably the best Italian restaurant in the city.
