This week’s dinner was at Good Good Culture Club, a newish (opened in January) restaurant that I’ve been meaning to try. One of the chefs was from Liholiho Yacht Club at which we ate at their pop up many years ago. Cuisine is modern Hawaiian/Asian. Ordering is all done through their Toast web site which was very convenient and allowed us to order at our own pace.
We wanted to try so many of the dishes, so we over ordered and over ate (as per usual). Favorites included the local halibut, boneless chicken wing, crying Tiger shrimp, jewelry rice, and seasonal soft shell crab. Poppyseed steamed bun was only ok and the beef short ribs were just way too greasy, heavy and tough (and the smoke had too much of a chemical taste to it) and not enough other flavors to cut through all that.
We were stuffed, but we really wanted to try the Halo Hal-Lao and the pandan bibinka, which for me were the best versions of these two desserts that I’ve ever had. That version of halo halo was so light and multi layered flavorful and the bibinka was the lightest, fluffiest version of this I’ve ever had with a nice bit of coconut and salt.
It’s not fine dining, but I’m a sucker for modern takes on Asian cuisine. We really enjoyed the meal and we’d definitely come back.
