Maria Isabel

Dinner at Maria Isabel. Tasting menu is reasonably priced ($90) for SF although we did add the two supplemental courses. Generally decent layered flavors on most dishes. Salad was very nice with all of the herbs and a sorbet with a bit of heat. Sea Urchin Tamalito was nice with a pillowy tamale and some nice heat from the dots of habanero hot sauce. Ribeye taco was a bit one note (altnough a decent one note) with a nice a la minute tortilla. Rice pudding empanada was a bit doughy and just too sweet.

Wine pairings and a bit fun (habanero apple cider, dessert wine made with cocoa nibs which definitely tasted like it), spirit pairing had a few nice choices.

My wife and I preferred this to the Mediterranean flavors at Dalida, definitely seemed more Chef Laura. She delivered some dishes to a couple tables, but alas, not ours.

Also, this was vastly better than the Michelin listed Mexican restaurant, El Carlos Elegante in Dallas that I ate at over the weekend at a very similar price point.
