Trestle

Had dinner with Jacob and Robert again with the addition of Joe this time. Jacob picked Trestle. I hadn’t eaten here before, so this sounded good since I’m always interested in something new. It was not too far from the Transamerica Pyramid which also turned out to be good because my wife’s office was very close and she happened to be working late so I could meet up with her afterward.

Menu was a four course prix fixe of a very modest $52 with 2 choices per course. Between the 4 of us, we did end up selecting every option on the menu. For me, I went with the Honey Nut Squash Soup, Tagliatini Carbonara, Crispy Skin Salmon, and the Vanilla Panna Cotta. I was going for the lighter options with the exception of the carbonara since I love carbonara.

The soup was quite good and had some poached shrimp and an espelette cream. It was delicious, but a bit heavier (due to all the cream) than I was expecting for a squash soup. The Tagliatini Carbonara was served in a twirled row of pasta. It was made with lardon (rather than guanciale) which was intermingled with the pasta and it was topped with some parsley leaves. I love carbonara and this was fit the bill for sure, although again, a relatively heavy dish, but at least in this case, I expected it. The salmon was beautifully cooked with a perfectly golden crisp skin on top. This was set atop a bed of creamed farro and then topped with a bit of small segments bits of an apple salad and some thin slices of purple cauliflower and sprinkled with some herbs. It made for a beautifully colorful dish. No fault with the salmon, although the creamy farro was the heaviest presentation of farro I’ve had. The panna cotta was topped on one half with a passionfruit puree and a half circle of buttermilk cake on the other half. The passionfruit was a nice choice with just a touch of acidity and some crunchy texture from the seeds.

Overall, it was a great bargain, but heavier than I was expecting although it was a solid winter meal, but in my mind with the honey nut squash soup and salmon I had visions more of a lighter autumn meal. Thanks again Jacob for another enjoyable meal!
