Dinner with my parents in SF. Brought them to Abaca, a contemporary Filipino restaurant that’s been open for a couple years now. We had the special Kamayan dinner with of course was meant you’ll be eaten with your hands. It was quite a spectacle with a very full table length platter of food. Needless to say, we took quite a bit home.
I both liked the Andrea and I both like the pancit which had a sauce on it and house made noodles. It’s not like the drier pancit I’m used and it was very flavorful, although quite messy to eat with hands. I of course enjoyed their version of lechon which was basically deep fried pork belly. The kare kare didn’t taste very peanuty and my parents make much better BBQ pork skewers.
I think my parents enjoyed the presentation more than the actual food, which isn’t surprising since it’s not very quite typical. Otherwise, the restaurant was quite full, which is all the more impressive for a Monday.
