We had to fortify ourselves before going doing a little Black Friday shopping at Stonestown Galleria. We were thinking Asian. We parked in the inner Sunset. San Tung was our initial choice, but it had a long line so we walked to um.ma for some Korean food.
We started with the scallion pancake…good, but since it’s fried, it’s quite heavy, although the dipping sauce helped cut some of that. We tried the Korean chicken wings with whatever the default sauce was, which was a sweet sticky glaze. The wings were surprisingly not very flavorful. We didn’t realize we had a choice of sauce until after we were leaving and saw another order at the kitchen and we probably would have more enjoyed some gochujang sauce.
Then came the sul lung tang soup, which had a beef bone marrow broth, brisket, and noodles. The broth on this was fantastic and this was easily our favorite dish. The waitperson told us that it takes them 3 days to make that broth. The brisket was nice and tender. There was a lot of noodle, which I only eat minimally, so it was a shame that there wasn’t more broth!
Lastly, came our “side” order of bone marrow. This was pretty huge for a side. The bone marrow wasn’t particularly flavorful, but they did incorporate it into the corn hash which was excellent. Very rich corn flavor.
We ended up taking home most of the scallion pancake and the corn hash, but at least we were fortified for the shopping ahead!
