Matthias wanted to eat here and for good reason! We also were all interested in having something different and since we don’t often eat out for German food (last time for us was at Suppenküche 6 months ago). Restaurant was fairly small with about 10 tables. We were seated with two square tables put together to seat 8 of us. Crowd definitely skewed older (not that we are young, but clearly older than us).I
I started with the flight of beer which included a lager, a hefeweizen, and a dunkel. Andrea ordered a bottle of some dunkel.
I ordered the 3 Brat Combo because I’m a sucker for variety and plus it was only $5 more than the other brat dishes. Andrea ordered the Saurbraten, my dad ordered the Fresh Catch (grouper I think), my mom just ordered French Onion Soup (so that she wouldn’t make the same mistake of over ordering like yesterday at District), Trisha only ordered the Haus Green Salad so she could eat other shares, and Matthias and the girls ordered 2 schnitzels (one being a Jager Schnitzel) that they shared. For starters we all ordered a couple orders of the Kartoffelpuffer-Potato Pancake.
The potato pancakes (3 per order so 6 in total) were quite delicious with the seasoning on them and the applesauce and sour cream added to it.
My brat combo included bratwurst, knockwurst, and debreziner on a bed of sauerkraut with German mustard on the side, roasted potatoes, and red cabbage. The brats, sauerkraut, and mustard were exactly what I was looking for. The potatoes seemed decent (some nice crisp edges to them and well seasoned), but I was way too full to eat more than one bite of them. The red cabbage was meh.
Andrea’s sauerbraten looked beautiful in the sauce with the side of spaetzle. I can’t say I really liked the meet prepared this way and was a bit dry (believe it or not) and stringy for my taste.
We had a taste of the schnitzel which was excellent…breaded, seasoned, and buttery too. Definitely the best schnitzel I recall ever eating and vastly better than the one I had at Suppenküche. No wonder Matthias orders it (and I only tried the plain schnitzel and not the Jager).
All in all, it was very good and I would definitely go back there and order the schnitzel next time.
