It was going to be a beautiful day this Saturday so I always think about doing my favorite run to Tiburon. Of course, I’m not quite in shape to do the whole 20-mile distance starting from home so I had Andrea drop me off at the vista point (on the Marin side) for the GG bridge which ended up being a more manageable 13 miles. It was a beautiful run as always. The question was where to eat. This time, we decided on Sam’s.
It was, of course, packed, but we waited in their new bar area and had some a couple Hermosa Picante which are basically spicy margaritas. The amount of ice was overflowing the glass and there wasn’t a lot of the cocktail, but it was delicious. Soon enough our table was called.
We promptly ordered a dozen oysters which were Shigokus and more Hermosa Picantes. These came out quickly and were very sweet and fresh. We also received our drinks. These came with much less ice and plenty of beverage except these didn’t taste remotely like (or so nearly as good as) the ones we had in the bar previously. Oh well.
We placed our orders for the rest of our food. We ordered some Fried Calamari, Andrea had the Sam’s Fattoush Salad, and I had the Crab Cake Benedict. After quite a wait, our food still hand’t come. I asked our server about it and he responded perfunctorily that “it was coming in just a minute,” which of course it wasn’t. In fact, it didn’t appear as if any food other than oysters was coming out of the kitchen. Hmm…
Eventually it did come and I was starving by this point. Sad to say, the food wasn’t really all that great (the calamari was rubbery with a heavy batter, benedict and salad were very basic) but that’s not really why you come to Sam’s. You come because it’s a beautiful day to be sitting outside by the water and have some drinks and enjoy your time which we very much did aside from the food.
