Saigon to Paris Cafe

Andrea and I took a redeye to get to my parents. They picked us up at the airport and then we went to lunch at this Vietnamese/French restaurant and patisserie. It was in an odd location in the middle of a warehouse district. The place was pretty full for a random Thursday.

Menu looked great with typical Vietnamese and French dishes in addition to the baked goods available on display in the transparent counters.

Andrea wanted to order the Char Siu Vermicelli Bowl, but they were all sold out of char siu, so she went with the Crispy Pork Vermicelli Bowl. I went with the Pho Special. My mom got the Roased Duck Banh Mi and my dad got the Roasted Duck Noodle Soup. Andrea and I also ordered the Spring Rolls to start. To drink we both ordered the Vietnamese Iced Coffee and my mom ordered the Fruity Tea (I think it was raspberry lychee) with an add on of something similar to boba. So, we obviously all went Vietnamese cuisine instead of French, except for dessert of course.

The spring rolls were typical, although just a bit on the large side. My Pho Special, comes with a nuch of beef items – eyeround beef, shank, meat balls, tendon, and tripe. It was decent enough, better than the pho I had at LeQuy, our neighborhood Vietnamese place. Andrea’s crispy pork was excellent, esp. with the vinegary sauce. I had one bite of my mom’s banh mi which was also excellent with great flavor and I liked the bread with a crunch and chewiness. My dad’s soup looked great and he ate all the duck, so it must have been good.

We ordered some pastries to take back to my sister and her nieces – fruit tarts, creme brulee, pan au chocolat, almond croissant, chocolate almond croissant. They also had some bite sized pastries amusingly called Bite Mee, so we ordered a couple of those to eat for dessert there. Andrea ordered the lemon tart meringue and I had the strawberry shortcake. We enjoyed the lemon tart more although I did eat all of the shortcake anyway (strawberry sauce tasted to processed).

All in all, a gem of a place for a casual lunch.
