We’ve been meaning to eat here forever and this restaurant has been around for quite awhile, but we just never seemed to get around to it, but we finally did. We were seated right as they opened (we’re old and don’t want to be out late…).
We started off with cocktails which were both nice. For starters, Andrea had the halibut ceviche, I had the local fried anchovies, and we split the shaved asparagus salad. I thought the best of the three was actually the salad with the fresh ricotta and the crispy quinoa. The ceviche was fine as were the fried anchovies, but very heavy of course, so I didn’t finish them in anticipation of all of the rest of the food.
Restaurant was packed by this point and service slowed down quite a bit, but we were fine with that. For mains, Andrea had the pork chop with greens and rhubarb and I had the local black cod with lenitls and various greens. I thought the cod and greens were pretty good, but the pork chop was only ok (I’d say we make a far better one at home). We also had a side of cumin roasted carrots with dill yogurt and fried mini chickpeas which was all quite tasty.
For dessert, Andrea wanted the malted chocolate ice cream so I ordered the chocolate chip cookies to go along with it. We also ordered dessert wine pairings – Barolo Chinato with the ice cream and a rivesalt with the cookies. The ice cream and warm cookies came out, but the pairings weren’t yet delivered so we waited…and waited…and waited. Eventually someone came by and I asked them to check on our pairings since we had been waiting and they also offered to re-warm the cookies. So we waited again for a bit and eventually they did arrive with the newly warmed cookies (ok, but nothing special) and our wine pairings. I thought the rivesalt was quite good and the chinato was ok (since we’ve had quite a few nice chinatos otherwise). They were nice enough to comp the cookies which we appreciated.
All in all, it was a nice meal and glad we went. We’d certainly eat there again (and if we lived closer, I can see the appeal), although we’d be more inclined to try something new first.
