Tonight’s dinner was at a slightly lower key restaurant. Still 1 Michelin star, but had the benefit of being only a block away from out hotel. Italian cuisine. Cocktails were good but nothing special. Bread (focaccia and a 7-grain) was fine but nothing special. For the oysters, we went with sweet petite from Prince Edward Island. Decent. We went with the chefs choice for the crudo…nice but fell short of so much nice sashimi we’ve had at Japanese restaurants. Antipasto was a mushroom consume with poached egg and truffle. Very tasty and different from the usual antipasto that we usually find.
For the pasta course, we went with a lobster and uni dish and a truffle, leek, Parmesan dish. Both were very good. For the meat course, we went with a duck breast, duck sausage, spätzle which was quite good. For dessert, we tried the donuts with crème fraiche and chocolate sauces. It was fine, but in retrospect I wish we had just gone with the tiramisu.
Wines by the glass were very good all around…generous pours, but also quite pricey (typically $25 and up per glass and that wasn’t even the special Coravin preserved wines. All in all, it was a solid dining experience and just what we were looking for today.
