Hazie’s

Our dinner at Dumpling Home was so quick, we decided to go to Hazie’s for some after dinner drinks since it was on our way back to our car and it looked quite nice from the previous times we’ve walked by it. Also, I had been reading about this new restaurant app, Blackbird, and this place happened to be one of the participating locations (didn’t do much with it other than just check-in, but it is supposed to give you an easy way to get your check if it’s super busy and crowded). There’s a big bar section with hight top seating up front and in the back there is table seating.

I was very tempted to try some of the gin-based cocktails (I’m on a bit of a gin kick since India and London), but succumbed to the siren call of mezcal. I was pleasantly surprised to see that of the 12 cocktails, 4 were mezcal-based and another 3 were tequila-based. For our first round of cocktails, I went with The Hat Trick and Andrea went with Ride the Lightning. My cocktail was made with Suze and Lillet. All of this made for a mezcal forward with a deliciously smokiness with some citrus from the Lillet and good amount of bitterness from the Suze. This was a perfect after dinner drink for me. Andrea’s Ride the Lightning had some heat from the jalapeno and habanero infused Patron Reposado, also very nice.

Second round, I again went with Naked & Famous, another mezcal-based cocktail, and Andrea went with the Yes Chef, also mezcal-based. Mine ended up being very light and more fruity without much mezcal flavor. This would have been better before my previous one, but either way, I strongly preferred The Hat Trick over this one. Andrea’s cocktail was made with ancho chile mezcal and had a nice heat to it.
