Dim sum for a late Sunday brunch. This restaurant was mentioned in both the SF Chronicle article about best dim sum restaurants as well as in Eater’s list , so we had to try it out. This restaurant is a spin off of the old standby Koi Palace in Daly City.
We ordered a ridiculous amount of food since we wanted to try so many different dishes (even that over head picture was before the next three dishes came out…). We had to try the Five Guys XLB, but we didn’t really find them all that varied. Andrea’s favorite dishes were the egg & beef congee and the pea shoot dumpling. I’m a sucker for roast duck and I really liked the two dishes with the sweet egg filling – the custard crystal dumpling and the steamed egg yolk lava bao. Our least favorite dish was probably the beef brisket stew crepe roll.
I had to get the durian puffs because how often do you get durian? The puff pastry was excellent and so flaky. Andrea took one small bite and said “I’m out!!!” For me it was definitely one of the best presentation of durian I’ve eaten (not that I’ve had all that many).
There’s so much more we wanted to try on the menu so we’ll definitely have to come back but next time with more mouths.
