We did just a little bit of touring stone Romanee-Conti and Clos Veugeot and then headed to our tasting at Domain Faiveley. Since there was a bit of rain, everyone was sent home except for our hosts so again we were literally the only ones there at the entire property, which admittedly gave a more bespoke experience. They had a Rodin sculpture in their courtyard and a nice view of the hills. The room with all of the distillation barrels was also beautiful with high ceilings, beautifully lit with skylights and also a great view. The cellar was huge and held almost 2000 barrels. The testing was also very enjoyable…I enjoyed all the ones except the first which was only OK (and was the last expensive and was from Cote Chalonnaise, the first we had tried from this region). I loved the finesse of the Vougeot and the Mersault was also very interesting with such a pleasing balance, not very acidic with some delicious honey notes. Andrea’s favorite was the Corton. And the Gevrey-Chambertin was excellent as well.
All in all, a great day of tasting delicious wines and food.
