Andrea wanted to go out to eat, something casual. We went over to West Portal to try our luck at Elena’s. They told us wait time was 2 hours. So we walked do to Little Original Joe’s to see how things were there and I had been curious to eat here since I’d never eaten at Original Joe’s and it’s the same owners of Elena’s. This place is really a take out place that they have a handful of tables outside. They told us pizzas would take 50min-1 hour so we decided not to that. We ordered the Joe’s Meatballs, Little Gem Caesar Salad, the Marry Me Farfalle at their recommendation, and the Prosciutto Spicy Vodka Parmiagiana which we both had been eyeing. We also picked up a bottle of wine, in this case a 2019 Barolo.
We sat outside in the sun and just enjoyed our wine (nothing special, but not offensive). We waited. Never heard our name called. Andrea went in to check. They said five minutes. So we waited some more. Andrea went back in to check and waited for awhile. About a wait of 40 minutes or so, we finally had our take out food.
Salad was decent thanks to the dressing and we ate all of that. Meatballs were meh…the meatballs themself weren’t particularly well seasoned and the sauce was very salty (and I like salt). The paremesan was what you expect with the spicy vodka sauce have a bit of spice which made it a bit more interesting. It was quite large and it was good thing we decided to split it. Andrea found the pasta underwhelming. I thought it was ok as long as you made sure to get some of the sauce which was all at the bottom and pieces of pancetta.
Overall, it was a so so experience made more so because of such a long wait for the food…I would be interested to try their full restaurant some time. I can see how they do well for take out and we’d be interested in trying their pizza at some point.
