I had an appointment to get my Covid vaccine in the Castro since they had the Moderna one, but I had a bit of time beforehand so I was looking for someplace quick to eat beforehand. After some quick searching online and Eater’s list of best places to eat in the Castro, picked this place and bonus since I could schedule a pickup order. I am a sucker for a reuben and since you get your choice of bread, of course I went with the sliced dark rye.
After my meeting ended, I walked to the Castro and promptly found Rossi’s (funny I’ve never noticed this before even though we’ve walked and driven through the Castro literally many hundreds of times and this place has apparently been open since 1976). I walked up to the cashier at the counter, showed my order on my phone, they bagged it up with a bottle of water and I was out the door in under a minute.
There wasn’t any seating there so I walked over to the corner by the cable car turn near the Chevron station where they had some table and chairs setup (this is also where the naked dudes like to hang out when it’s warm and sunny, but no naked dudes today, but there was one was homeless guy sleeping nearby). Sun was just starting to come out. The sandwich was still warm and had faint grill marks on the bread. It’s a reuben corned beef and cheese were melted together. Moisture from the sandwich caused the bread to get a bit soggy. I love rye, so would have loved an even stronger rye flavor, but was good enough.
