Had dinner out with my sister Ginny, visiting from Lanzarote, and my parents. Went to one of their usual places, Sushi-Thai. Not surprisingly, their menu has both Thai food and sushi, I’m guessing to better appeal to the locals with a pan-Asian menu (I’m also assuming that Japanese cuisine is more popular/mainstream than Thai). I’m always a bit skeptical of a place that does multiple cuisines as well as seafood on a Monday.
My sister and I ordered the Lychee Martini to start. Was relatively weak (I do prefer my cocktails to be more spirit forward), but fortunately it wasn’t too sweet. The color of it came from a bit of pomegranate juice.
We orderes fried softshell crab and also Firecracker Shrimp. The softshell crab was as you would expect. The Firecracker shrimp was a shrimp in a springroll type wrapper and deep fried, not exactly what I was thinking of for something called “firecracker”; it was so so.
I ended up ordering the sushi/sashimi/chicken teriyaki combo which ended up being a huge sushi boat with a california roll, sashimi, and some nigiri as well as the chicken teriyaki. It was a ridiculous amount of food. I did eat the sashimi and the sushi (all pretty meh), about half of the chicken teriyaki, and only one piece of the California roll. It was all mediocre, but for the money it was an impressive amount of food.
One dish that was a bit above expectation was the Salmon Skin salad that my mom ordered which came with a significant amount of salmon skin (good use of that though), although I wish it had been a bit more crispy.
