Last dinner in LV. Didn’t want French again although I was tempted to go to Guy Savoy (next time). Ended up going to Momofuku in the Cosmopolitan. We had eaten at Momofuku Ko the last time we were in NY which is now closed.
This is obviously more casual than Ko was and that’s all I was looking for, but I still managed to enjoy some indulgences.
I was seated at the counter (although I did have a reservation for a table for 1, which was just as well some I like to see the action). I started with the Pantheon cocktail, a citrusy whiskey and Benedictine cocktail. Quite good. Nice to have a decent cocktail (do you hear that Mister Jiu’s?).
Menu is mostly Asian with some flourishes. I started with the tuna appetizer with has shaved frozen foie gras on it. This did add a very nice salty, fatty component that made an otherwise ordinary dish better.
I then also ordered the caviar bun with had a little piece of fried chicken in a steamed bun, crème fraiche, and Osetra caviar. The chicken was ok, at heat it was a thigh with a thick crust, which was also ok. The bun was bit doughy. But overall flavors were good.
For my main, I went with the truffle ramen and added pork belly. I didn’t ask where truffle came from but I’m assuming it was a winter truffle from Australia. Definitely truffle aroma and flavor. Decent ramen, which is all about the broth, but not exceptional.
Overall, it was pretty much what I expected and hoped for and I still was able to indulge in foie, caviar, and truffle as a bonus, haha (there is also Japanese uni (add on) and wagyu (entree) available if you really want to indulge).
I don’t know if they even have dessert because I already decided that I was going to go to Milk Bar next door (just like in NY where Christina Tosi was pastry chef at Momofuku and then expanded to open up the first Milk Bar next door with investment from David Chang).
I couldn’t decide if I wanted the birthday cake or the cereal milk soft serve ice cream, but fortunately I didn’t have to decide between those both because they had their DIY pint where I could have the bday cake, cereal milk ice cream, fudge sauce, and cornflake crumble topping. That definitely hit the spot. Fortunately I did bite consume the entire pint, but I probably ate more than I should have, but it was getting so good as the ice cream got all melty.
