Food at the wedding

I really didn’t take as many photos of food during all of the wedding festivities as I could/should have (most of these pictures were just from the first lunch). At each meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), there was a buffet for appetizers as well as a full buffet for the meal. This would have been about 4 appetizers, about 10 or more main dishes, and 4 desserts or so at each meal for 2 days. The menu was fully vegetarian and was different at every meal except perhaps the last one which had some repeats. That’s a lot of dishes!

There was such a huge variety of dishes from clear broth vegetable soups to pani puri to a dish that was heavily flavored with turmeric (wish I had taken a photo of that) to Hyderabad biriyani and on an on. There were so many various regional dishes and variations on dishes. There was so much food to try that I would often just have a just a bite or two of each dish (that’s still a lot!).

One big surprise was the desserts. The ram mohan thal is a dessert made of lentils and the dudhi halwa was a dessert made of calabash (bottle gourd). Both were some of our favorites. Then again, there was also the jalebi which is similar to a funnel cake in a sweet syrup. How can you go wrong with a bit of crunchy fried starch with some sugary syrup? The addition with a bit of the curd from one of the other dishes rounded it out with the additional creaminess. These desserts were so dangerously good that we all often ended up going back for seconds and often thirds!

That pani puri looks amazing. Ooooo….a dessert lentil….intriguing. Lentils are so peppery that I am curious as to how they work in a sweet dish. Also, to answer your question, you cannot go wrong with crunchy fried starch with sugary syrup. Not possible.
