After the Lily’s Baccalaureate, we went to District Table & Bar for dinner.
Andrea and I each ordered their Harlot’s Martini which is a dirty martini made with Dolin vermouth, goat cheese stuffed olives, lemon oil. Andrea had hers made with vodka (Ketel One) and mine was made with Tanqueray gin. Pretty tasty. The goat cheese stuffed olives were much better than blue cheese stuffed olives which is just too strong flavored (we do love blue cheese in general, just not in our martinis).
For starters, we ordered the Street Corn and the Seafood Tower (small) although the girls and Matthias wouldn’t be able to try because they are allergic to seafood. The seafood tower was loaded with a sampler from all of the raw dishes including seasonal oysters (from Massachusetts), Smoked Wahoo Dip, Tuna Poke, Beau Soleil Oysters, and more. We ate all of it.
For a starter, Andrea and I split the Kai Kai Bibb salad which had a great description – heart of palm, sugar snap peas, avocado, watermelon radish, ricotta salata, and yuzu sesame vinaigrette. In practice, it was pretty much ruined for us with too much sesame oil and most definitely not enough yuzu and we couldn’t finish half of it even.
For entrees, I ordered the Sweet Tea Fried Chicken (as did Lili), Andrea had the District Burger (as did Matthias and Bella), my dad had the Potato Crusted Flounder, my mom had the Huli Huli Chicken, my sister just had the Tomato Panzanella since she was going to just eat shares of other dishes.
My fried chicken was quite good. I had only one chicken thigh though and two breast pieces (too much to finish with all of the starters we already had). I did like having the pickles with it and the crack sauce wasn’t as flavorful as I would have hoped for. I didn’t really care for the buttermilk biscuit although the raspberry jam helped. I also didn’t really care for the mac & cheese since it wasn’t cheesy enough for my taste although Andrea seemed to like it.
Andrea’s burger was pretty decent, esp. for a smashburger (not our preferred style of burger although we know they are very trendy right now). The bun was a Japanese milk bread and it had American Cheese and, pickles, lettuce and Andrea had the secret sauce on the side. She was pretty full and only ate half her burger, but I ate the other half, haha. It also came with fries, but I didn’t care for them (soggy and not that flavorful). It also came with a mini chocolate malt, which was a nice addition.
My dad’s flounder came with risotto, english peas, and green garlic butter sauce. He ate all the fish. My mom barely touched her chicken because she was so full already (I was surprised she ordered an entree at all since even if she had been hungry, she wouldn’t have finished it).
We were stuffed, but we had to get dessert because that’s the way over-ordering and over-eating is on brand for our family. I wanted to get the Grand Marnier Soufflé because I am a sucker for soufflé, but of course that takes 25 minutes and we didn’t want to wait around that long. So we went with the Baked Florida and the Donuts. The Baked Florida is a version of baked Alaska, but made with key lime pie and guava with some 151 rum set afire. Honestly, I probably would have been just as happy with plain key lime pie since making it “baked” didn’t really add much other than a little bit (and it was only a little) of spectacle. The donuts came with some jam and a tangerine/basil pot du creme. Decent.
