Chateau Lascombes

Second growth winemaker. More Merlot based than typical Margaux wine – 2013 vintage we tasted was 48/48/4 of Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon/Petit verdot. Couple different things they do… They use dry ice to do cold maceration to slow down/delay the fermentation… The wheels on the storage system for the barrels allowed them to stir the lees by rotating the barrels rather than opening them up and stirring because opening could cause contamination. It was also nice to taste all the 6 Bordeaux grape varietals off the vine when they were all ripe and close to harvest (don’t think we’ve been given grapes to taste directly off the vine in any other tour). I didn’t like the carmenere grape…too green and peppery for me. <Old man rant> I am a little surprised how dressed down some people are for tastings… This last group wore mostly baggy shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops… At a second growth chateau nonetheless. </Old man rant>
