Trisha A. had recommended this place for a drink, so we stopped in the bar for martinis, dirty vodka (ketel) for Andrea and gin(hendricks) for me. We had planned to go to Sacred Beast for dinner, but since it was getting late, we just decided to eat here. We ended up with seating in the adjacent dining area and not the main one (not sure exactly why since it seemed like there was plenty of room this late in the main dining room). We didn’t get to sit the plush cushy booths. Boo hoo.
Very standard steakhouse fare. Bread was said to be sourdough, but not very sour. It was served with a butter and a mushroom compound which was tasty even if it was goosed with truffle oil.
Starters was Caesar which we split and was still huge, but very basic. Could have really used some anchovies. I also had the crab cake since I was curious since it was made with east coast blue crab (I generally prefer dungeness when I buy from Whole Foods), but have to admit this was decent, perhaps also because it’s fresher than purchasing on west coast?
Andrea had the Petite Filet Mignon and I had the Australian Premium Wagyu Ribeye Cap. We both ordered mid rare. Mine came out a bit closer to medium, but it was fine with plenty enough fat plus the butter the drenched them in. They also char, which I’m not a big fan of, but this was not too bad.
For dessert, Andrea ordered the Espresso Chocolate Cake and I ordered the Bananas Foster from there Ruby Reserve section of the dessert menu which are served tableside and I’m a big sucker for tableside service (and I’m bananas for bananas…see what i did there, lol). It was a nice show. nice touch and amusing that the ice cream is banana shaped and colored. The one criticism I had was that i wished the walnuts had been toasted more, otherwise was fine. We were so full by this point that we each only had one bite of the cake.
Overall, it was fine, relatively expensive, but not by fine dining or SF standards. Better than I was expecting (that being said, my expectations of most steakhouses are quite low), let’s call it Cincinnati good.
