Great Court Restaurant at the British Museum

We did a bit of museum-ing in the morning and then had lunch at the restaurant so we could get our strength back to see more of the museum. Andrea made reservations and pre-paid for 2-courses. The pre-pay was a modest £21.

For starters, Andrea went withe charred eggplant with apricot harissa and I went with the hot smoked salmon beetroot salad. My salad was almost all smoked salmon and just some small cubes of beet. I love salmon, but I was actually hoping for the ratio to be more of the reverse. Oh well.

Timing/service ended up being very slow. We waited a long time for our mains and I flagged down our waitperson if our food was coming. He went back to check and came back and said our order was next and fortunately, it did come out shortly thereafter, although at this point it had been an hour since we sat down (and this is only a 2-course meal).

For our mains, Andrea had the pumpkin and saffron risotto and I had the Yorkshire braised beef with a peppercorn sauce (there was an additional £4 charge to the pre-paid pricing for the Yorkshire beef). Both were ok, nothing special (on mine, the peppercorn sauce wasn’t particularly flavorful. I did eat the carrot though), but we didn’t really have high expectations for the food.
