Georgie

I’m only here in Dallas for about 24 hours, but I did take the opportunity to take my cousin out to dinner. We haven’t seen each other or communicated much since the last time I was here in Dallas probably 25 years or more ago. It was really great to catch up with him and we both hope that it isn’t another 25 years before we get together again!

I also took this opportunity to find a nice restaurant at which to dine. We were eating out on a Tuesday so many of the restaurants were closed, but this place looked promising. It was originally opened with chef Curtis Stone, but is now lead by chef RJ Yoakum who was previously working at French Laundry.

I’m glad my cousin was open to eat anything so we went with the tasting menu as I am wont to do. I started with The Georgie cocktail which was very refreshing.

I didn’t particularly enjoy the first dish of the tomato consomme so much, but the dishes after that were all quite good. The trio with the oyster with some butter and caviar was tasty as was the little tart with halibut. The churro came with the onion dip in the middle

I think the next dish was a snapper that I don’t remember much about, but after that came the halibut which came buttery broth which made it easy to like.

After that came the Ricotta Gnudi with perigord truffle which was also a nice combo.

For the duck course, we were given our choice of laguiole knives which is always a nice touch. These were pretty nice knives with a decent heft to them (some of them used in restaurants are very light and plasticky). I always enjoy duck if it is decently prepared and this was the case here.

Then came a palate cleanser and then cheesecake and blueberries for dessert. The cheesecake was of the lighter style which I do enjoy.

All in all, it was a good meal, but not great, but i did very much enjoy my time with my cousin.

So many dishes with murky pools of broth/sauce/consomme. A savory churro sounds good. Anything fried is good.
