Had dinner at the local Lebanese restaurant in Trisha’s neighborhood of West Hampstead. We had quite a feast, which is part of the fun eating out as a group since we can order a big variety of dishes (granted we over-ordered, but this just meant leftovers for later).
Andrea and I both started off with glasses of their Lebanese house wine (red for Andrea, white for me) since we almost never have a chance to drink Lebanese wine. THe red was a beldn of cab sauv, carignan, and mouvedre and the white, clairette, muscat, and sauv blanc. Neither were memorable.
For mezze, we ordered the hummus beiruty (hummus with garlic, parsley and chili topped with some pomegranate seeds), labneh bel toum (labneh with garlic and mint), moutabal (pureed grilled aubergine/eggplant with sesame oilk and lemon juice), tabouleh, and kabis (lebanese pickles and olives). This definitely got us started.
Before we got too full just on starters, we also ordered our mains – mixed shawarma (lamb and chicken), the lamb special (leg), loubieh (green beans cooked with tomato sauce), and soujouk (armenian spiced sausage in a tomato sauce).
We ate ourselves silly (or at least I know I did) because it’s so fun to have such a variety of dishes. In the end, the shawarma was a bit redundant with the lamb leg special, but the lamb leg was so tasty so I was really glad we got that. I didn’t really care much for the green beans (just a bunch of mush to me), but enjoyed everything else. I can see why Trisha always comes here.
After all that, we had baklawa for dessert and I know I ate more than my fair share of that!
