The wine tour was very informative even though we’ve certainly consumed a fair amount of Burgundy, we didn’t quite grok the sub-regions and the numerous vineyards as well as the AOCs all interrelate for a given wine. It was of course interesting to contrast this with the domestic Pinots we drink, there Burgundy that we’ve purchased in the US (we’ve heavily enjoyed many of the whites we’ve purchased, but have been somewhat underwhelmed by the reds), and the different wines available here. So many of the reds we had here were fantastic and reasonably priced to us and so varied from the spicy peppery on the Fixins, to the dark fruit of the Gevrey-Chambertin, to a more red fruit of a Nuit St George, to the leathery flavors of a Vougeot. Surprisingly we didn’t enjoy the whites as much as we expected to, but we really didn’t taste very many of them today. All in all I’m was a great learning experience for us. We’re looking forward to our next wine tour with a bit more focus on Grand Crus.
