After lunch at Valley, we went to Obsidian partially based on the recommendation from Corner 103 and based on our memory of having had this wine before. The tasting room is set back slightly from the street of the plaza. We did a walk-in. They were fairly busy (packed inside and mostly outside) and they told us to grab a seat anywhere. We sat outside.
The service was a bit uneven (again, they were quite busy and there were only two of them working the entire tasting room). There were two tastings – Base Camp and Winemaker’s Selection. We went for one of each. We also ordered the Adventure Nuts which they explained since they can’t offer food due to permitting, they could offer pre-packaged foods and they said the nuts went well with the tasting. Of course, in all of the business, we never received them (and weren’t charged for them).
Tasting was very leisurely due to how busy they were, but that was fine. As the tasting room emptied a bit, we did get more attention from the woman (Sydney?) who was half Filipina and half Okinawan. Wines were more interesting and complex than at Corner 103 and we generally preferred the pours from the Winemaker’s Selection. We ended up buying two bottles of malbec, two of the Primo’s Pinot, one Half Mile cab and one Leaf Cab (they had a nice story about the naming of it too.).
