We had a little bit of time in Sonoma and decided to just do tasting in the plaza. Andrea asked ChatGPT where to taste and this place came up as one of the top mentions.
The tasting room was on a corner of course. We just did a walk-in and the place was empty. We were given a nice seat at the corner window. The person hosting us spent the whole time with us other than to go get some wine. He was personable and engaging. He explained a bit about the history – founder was a former owner of Viansa. They are basically a negociant since they don’t own any of their own vineyards. He also explained that the tasting room had recently re-opened after having been closed for 5 month because the transformer on the power pole right outside the window blew up and had blown out the windows and damaged the tasting room.
Tasting was set up to pick 5 of any of their wines. They had 13 wines so Andrea each picked a different set of 5. Wines were all decent, inoffensive and very drinkable now (no heavy tannins). We ended up buying a couple bottles each of the zin (we never have zin at home), malbec (also never had malbec at home), and the Inspiration (bordeaux blend).
He had asked us our plans for the day. We were going to get lunch at Valley and otherwise just winging it. He did recommend going to Obsidian which we would end up doing.
